The Role Of Quality Assurance In Project Management

Even outside of the work environment, we are all brought up knowing the importance that quality play in our lives– from ordinary products and gadgets that we use, the house we live in, quality is something that we all look for in everything we need. The same is true for projects that we work on– and how we assure the success of a project after it has been completed. This is why Quality Assurance is an integral part of the project team– testing for flaws, bugs, and other factors in the processes and procedures that may contribute to a project’s failure, pinpointing areas in which quality control may have been compromised.

Quality Control and Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance is the part of the team tasked to supervise and monitor as well as oversee the level of quality within the undertaking of the project. This it does by evaluating processes and procedures used within the project, the systems used and the fulfillment of the tasks within the project plan. This includes defining, designing and developing of test plans to be used by Quality control in order to check and test if the end output follows the specifications detailed in the project plan.

Quality control, on the other hand, deals with the end product, focusing on specific areas such as testing or debugging (in the case of software and other information technology products), comparing the end output to the specifications in the project plan in order to discover and solve any errors and anomalies that may lead to the project’s failure. Quality control often falls under the quality assurance team– both functions which are critical in ensuring the overall success of a given project.

Quality Assurance: What It Entails
Quality Assurance is an aspect of project management that ensures project completion and success. This involves specific tasks that are necessary to ensure that any changes required by the discovery of any flaws or errors does not require going back to the drawing board and can be implemented without negating the efforts of the project management team.

• Design the testing system. They will define what needs to be tested and what aspects, why and what should be done should any errors or areas for improvement be found. This means that quality assurance team also assesses the feasibility of whether or not any improvements or corrections discovered can already be put in place during or immediately after the testing process. This includes establishing the environment for the different tests required to ensure that they produce useful data.
• Guide the quality control team in analyzing the test results, as well as the implications of any changes that will be needed for corrections and improvements, as well as design structures and processes for their implementation.
• Test the tests themselves. This means they will need to check the data produced by the pre-tests to ensure that required test data have been produced before proceeding to the test proper, as well as review the results of pretesting for completeness and calculate any missing results.
• Analyze, and document report test procedures and ensure that all results and errors as well as areas for improvement are documented. .
